August 31, 2009 Special Town of Richmond Board Meeting
RICHMOND TOWNSHIP BOARD MINUTES SPECIAL MEETING AUGUST 31, 2009 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Todd Rehnelt at 6 p.m. Supervisors in attendance were Naser, Berquist, Knutson, and Volkert. Also present were Clerk Preece and Planning Comm. Chair Derrick. The agenda was approved on a motion by Naser and second by Volkert. Public Input: Suggestion was made that since the city has presented the town of Richmond with 4 options, we should perhaps develop other options. The only item on the agenda was the Richmond Way/140th St. Project. Todd opened the discussion by suggesting that we try to work with the city to get this intersection done for the $125,000.00 amount to be paid by Richmond township, as proposed by the city. In addition to this, the city would sign an agreement to redo 140th St. No. to Co. Rd.. GG, and Richmond Township would take on the responsibility of 140th St. So. to Co. Rd. G. He suggested a timeline of 7 years for the South portion of 140th, which in further discussions with residents in attendance, was cited as much too long a time. Berquist wonders whether our job as board supervisor is to protect tax payer dollars or appeasing the city. Dick Hopkins stated the town has to have an obligation for this 140th/ St./Richmond Way intersection. The letter explaining the schools opposition to extending Richmond Way written by Morrie Veilleux, on behalf of the New Richmond Board of Education was read. Mr. Veilleux will be present at special board meeting on Sept. 1, 2009. People in the audience feel that if this intersection does go in, 140th St. needs to be redone as soon as possible. Tom Derrick feels we need an agreement with the city regarding possible annexation of 140th so that if it is annexed soon after it is redone, the Town of Richmond would have an agreed upon reimbursement. Gerrit VanDyk suggests we do nothing until the city and school come to an agreement. Costs for roads now are lower than they have been in recent past. The final consensus was that of the options presented by the city, option 4 is the best one. This project will be addressed on Sept. 1, 2009 at a special town board meeting. The meeting was adjourned on a motion by Volkert and second by Knutson. Respectfully submitted Donna Preece, Clerk
